Professor Morrow’s interest in inter-community relationships in Northern Ireland/Ireland, and questions of peace and conflict both in Ireland and internationally, have shaped his University career. As an academic, he has written and researched widely on conflict, politics and religion, and issues of peacebuilding. As a practitioner, he has been on the boards of numerous peacebuilding and community development agencies including Co-operation Ireland, the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland, and the Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education.
Between 2002 and 2012, Professor Morrow was Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Community Relations Council, where he championed practice and policy to promote a shared future in Northern Ireland. In 1998, he was appointed as a Sentence Review Commissioner responsible for implementing the early release provisions of the Good Friday Agreement and has taken a continuous interest in criminal and restorative justice issues both locally and internationally. In 2012, he was appointed by the Scottish Government to chair independent Ministerial advisory groups on tackling Sectarianism and on Hate Crime, Prejudice and Community Cohesion.
