Art O'Leary

Biography

Art O’Leary has been the Secretary General to the President since June 2014, responsible for advising the President on constitutional and all other matters relating to the presidency. He is also responsible for the administration of the President's office and staff at Aras an Uachtaráin. Every year the President's Office manages 400+ events inside and outside the Aras, caters for 20,000 visitors, provides support for ca. dozen foreign visits, drafts hundreds of speeches and issues centenarians' bounties to over 400 citizens on reaching the age of 100 years.

Prior to that he was Secretary to the Constitutional Convention, a two-year citizen-led initiative to consider constitutional change in a wide number of areas, from the electoral system to marriage equality.

Art  also worked in the Houses of the Oireachtas for over 20 years, primarily as a member of the senior management team as Director of Parliamentary Committees, Information & Communications, Human Resources and as head of a number of procedural functions. Art had strategic and operational responsibility for 26 Oireachtas committees, the 100-member Media and Press Gallery, the broadcasting function and all HR matters associated with an organisation with payroll (and pension) for 1,500 Oireachtas Members and staff.

He has an MBA from Henley Business School.
