Julia Buerger

Julia Buerger is currently finishing her PhD under the supervision of Dr Claire O’Reilly in the Department of German on the subject of learning experiences in intercultural training groups.

Julia holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Regensburg, Germany, specialising in Social Psychology and Intercultural Communication. She worked as a researcher within the multidisciplinary FOROST framework project (Forschungsverbund Ost- und Südosteuropa, 2003-2008) and is now a freelance Lecturer teaching intercultural competence and intercultural learning at the OTH (Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule, Regensburg) and at other applied universities in Bavaria.

My research focuses on learning and understanding culture concepts and mediating cultural differences. I’m fascinated by the diverse ways learners make sense of their intercultural experiences and hope to understand and translate subjective conceptualisations of cultural interpretation.
