Department of Geography PhD Studentship Awards

General Information

The Department of Geography is offering one PhD studentship for incoming PhD students starting in September 2012:

One studentship, covering PhD fees and an additional stipend for a three year period.  The annual value of this studentship will be at level E of the UCC postgraduate student funding scheme.  The recipient of this studentship will be required to provide 135 hours of work in the department (tutorials, marking, field work support etc.) each year as part of the studentship and will be required to make themselves available for additional hours, paid at the standard tutorial rate.

Eligibility

Applicants must be prospective new entrants to the Department of Geography programme.  Applicants short-listed for interview must make an application to the UCC Department of Geography PhD programme through PAC before being considered for the studentship.

The studentship is open to prospective part-time and full-time PhD students.  The level of funding will be adjusted accordingly.

The award may not be held concurrently with any other award that precludes carrying out duties in the department.  Renewal for 2nd and 3rd years will be dependent on successful progress as determined by annual review by the departmental Postgraduate Studies Committee.

Selection

Selection will be based on the quality of the research proposal submitted and on an interview to be held in July 2012.
