Colin Sage Receives Award

Thu, 8 Mar 2012

At a recent event Dr Colin Sage, Senior Lecturer in the Geography Department, received the Cork Environmental Forum’s ‘Outstanding Individual Award’ for 2011. The Award was made in recognition of Colin’s work to better understand the production and consumption of food and how this impacts upon the environment, including climate change and food security. Much of this work is encapsulated in his book, Environment and Food, published by Routledge during the year.

Colin was nominated and introduced by Jennifer Franklin and the Award was made by Kevin Santry of West Cork Development Partnership at an event held in the Firkin Crane just before Christmas (see photograph).

Cork Environmental Forum is probably the foremost Local Agenda 21 organisation in Ireland, having been established in the wake of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development.  CEF is a cross-sectoral umbrella organisation comprising 650 groups and individuals from across the region and it works closely with Cork City and County Councils.
