From AI to Irish politics: UCC students showcase cutting-edge projects at 2025 Open Day

  • UCC’s final year students tackle AI, pop music, professional football, politics and more at UCC Final Year Project Open Day.
  • Students from BA Digital Humanities and Information Technology and the BA in Applied Psychology and Computing among those who will showcase their work.

The influence of AI on coaching strategies, the impact of digital technology on pop music are, social media use of Ireland's Far Right and people’s susceptibility to deepfake misinformation and among the topics which will be explored at the Final Year Project Open Day.

This event will showcase the innovative projects developed by final year students including students from BA Digital Humanities and Information Technology (CK118) and the BA in Applied Psychology and Computing (CK121), highlighting the intersection of culture and technology.

Students who are interested in studying BA Digital Humanities and Information Technology (CK118) and the BA in Applied Psychology and Computing (CK121) at UCC, teachers, parents and supporters are invited to attend the event which will take place on 2 April from 2pm – 4pm in room G21 of the Western Gateway Building, UCC (T12 XF62). The Open Day is an opportunity for students to present their research and innovations to peers, Faculty, and industry professionals. Each project will feature an abstract, presentation video, and information about the student developer, providing a comprehensive understanding of their work.

Dr Shawn Day, Head of Department and Lecturer in Digital Humanities at UCC, said: “We're excited to share our students’ cutting-edge innovative projects, applying digital technologies to arts and humanities research. Across such diverse disciplines as languages, literature, philosophy, politics, geography, sociology amongst others, our Digital Humanities and Computer Science students demonstrate how technology can be utilised across all aspects of society.”

Dr Conor Linehan, Head of BA Psychology and Computing and Senior Lecturer in Applied Psychology at UCC, said: "The final-year projects showcased by our students on the BA in Applied Psychology and Computing are a powerful reflection of a degree designed for the world we live in today. These projects demonstrate how psychological insight, research, and critical thinking can be applied to the design and evaluation of technology that shapes our lives - from healthcare and education to AI and user experience.”
