Taoiseach Enda Kenny opens the Copper Coast Geopark Centre

The Copper Coast Geopark Centre, in which UCC are active partners, was officially opened by the An Taoseach, Enda Kenny, TD on 23rd November 2013.

Dr. Richard Unitt from the School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences represents UCC on the Board of Directors and officiated at the launch along with Dr Bettie Higgs.

The Copper Coast Geopark is our nearest UNESCO funded European Geopark of which UCC are active partners. The Geology of the coast is spectacular recording a 460 million year record of volcanism and the deep sea sedimentation. The strata host mineral-rich veins spurning a historic copper mining industry.

Please visit the new vistors centre where the geology and industrial heritage is exquisitily displayed. May we wish the Copper Coast continuing success and development.
