Siobhain O’Mahony

Biography

Siobhain is a lecturer in the Department Neuroscience/Anatomy and a Principal Investigator in the neurogastroenterology core of the APC. She completed a B.Sc. in Neuroscience in UCC and an M.Sc. in Neuropharmacology in NUIG. She spent a year of her M.Sc. in the Psychiatry and Neuropsychology Department in Maastricht University, The Netherlands. She then completed a Ph.D. in the APC, followed by post-doctoral research validating animal models and assessing GSK lead compounds for visceral pain.Siobhain’s research focus is on visceral pain in IBS and how early life stress alters the appropriate signalling in the brain-gut-microbiota axis.
