We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Post-Doctoral Researcher to work on a new project investigating the role of bacteriophages in horizontal gene transfer in the human gut microbiome. The project will involve an array of approaches, including long-read high-throughput sequencing, faecal chemostat models, random transposon insertion libraries in gut bacteria and animal colonisation models. The role requires an exceptional knowledge and skill set spanning anaerobic bacteriology, bacteriophage biology, bacterial genetics and microbiome science. This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement No 101001684).
Post Duration: 2 years (with possibility of extension to up to 3 years)
Salary: €42,031 - €48,427 p.a.

We are looking for an exceptionally enthusiastic, creative, and driven Post-Doctoral Researcher with a passion for interdisciplinary science and a desire to apply their unique talents to high-impact work aimed at improving human health, to join the laboratory of Dr. Piotr S. Kowalski at the School of Pharmacy at UCC. Dr. Kowalski’s research spans multiple disciplines and will allow candidates to develop their skills in a variety of areas, including circular RNA engineering, RNA delivery, nanomaterials design, and gene therapy.

Research Support Officer (Admin) 070491
The APC is now seeking an energetic, ambitious, and resourceful individual for the position of Research Funding Coordinator. The candidate will be a member of the APC operations team and will work closely with the APC Research Funding Manager and other members of the APC team, along with the wider network of UCC research and grant support personnel, to achieve and exceed APC funding targets. Integral to the role is a strong knowledge of the suite of international and national funding programmes available to APC researchers. The candidate will support the Research Funding Manager in the implementation of the APC research funding strategy, with particular emphasis on Horizon Europe, to ensure that the APC meets and exceeds its funding targets. A key part of the role will be working with the Research Funding Manager to deliver an effective communication and engagement strategy in APC to ensure that researchers across the gamut of early stage to senior PI are aware of and exploiting all opportunities available.
Post Duration: 20 months
Salary: €48,000

We are currently recruiting a Research Support Officer Clinical Research Nurse with clinical psychiatry and/or psychology experience to support the team in the microbiome-brain-gut axis spoke led by Prof. John F. Cryan, with APC Microbiome Ireland, which addresses the communication between the brain and the gut, and how it can be influenced by the gastrointestinal microbiome. The research nurse will be working in a PI research team led by Dr. Harriet Schellekens (Anatomy & Neuroscience), Prof Ger Clarke (Psychiatry) and Dr. Karen O’Connor (Clinical Psychiatrist) on a project A probiotic strategy for antipsychotic-induced metabolic dysfunction.
Post Duration: 18 months
Salary: €51,937 pro rata 0.5FTE (Clinical Nurse Manager 1 Scale B, Point 1)
