Research Support Officer

Research Support Officer – Lab Manager Competition ID: 068271

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Research Support Officer – Lab Manager to work on an ERC-funded project investigating the role of bacteriophages in horizontal gene transfer in the human gut microbiome. The project will involve an array of approaches, including long-read high-throughput sequencing, faecal chemostat models, random transposon insertion libraries in gut bacteria and animal colonisation models. The role requires knowledge of bacteriology and virology techniques as well as strong management skills. This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement No 101001684).

Post Duration: 2 years

Salary: €50,000

Research Support Officer - Clinical Competition ID: 067971

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Support Officer -Clinical to manage a study on arthritis and immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-related adverse events. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing SFI funded research project, which focuses on the modulation of the intestinal microbiome in non-responders to targeted immune therapies for immune-mediated diseases such as Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) and Checkpoint inhibitor-induced colitis. The position will be based in Cork University Hospital and will require close collaboration with the Gastroenterologists, Rheumatologists and oncologists involved in cancer.

Post Duration: 2 years

Salary: €50,000

Research Assistant

Research Assistant – Technical (x2 positions) Competition ID: 067333

We wish to recruit two research assistants who will work on the Germ- Free Platform and will be responsible for delivering pre-clinical research projects in the germ-free facility. The RAs will work in a cleanroom environment overseeing the day-to-day care of the germ-free research projects. They will prepare for and participate in laboratory trials. The candidate will maintain stocks and associated supplies and ensure that all germ-free research practices conform to the applicable ethical standards and legislations. It is desirable that the successful candidates will have significant experience working with animal models, including in a germ-free facility.

 

Post Duration: 1 year

Salary: €29,275 - €39,158

Research Assistant – Technical Competition ID: 067973

We wish to recruit for a Research Assistant – Technical who will work within the Walter Lab as part of the ‘Microbe Restore’ project, a large Science Foundation Ireland funded program of work exploring targeted nutritional and microbiome-based strategies for the prevention of chronic diseases. Under the direction of Professor Jens Walter, the successful candidate will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary research team, responsible for processing and analysing samples from human intervention studies and related laboratory activities. The incumbent will competently conduct research activities within a multidisciplinary research environment. They may have a passion for research and interest in contributing to this multidisciplinary research endeavour.

Post Duration: 1 year

Salary: €29,275 - €39,158
