Cork has been chosen as the host city for a major international summit on the future of higher education which is to take place in 2025.

Hundreds of Europe’s top minds from the world of university education are to come to University College Cork  (UCC) for the European University Association (EUA) Learning & Teaching Forum, which will be held in Cork on February 27 and 28, 2025.

UCC’s Office of the Vice President for Learning and Teaching and Centre for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning today announced its successful bid to host the event.

Professor Paul McSweeney, Vice-President for Learning and Teaching at UCC, welcomed the news.

“We are delighted that our bid to host this important event was successful. This will see leaders in best practice come to Cork to share the latest teaching and learning developments. There will be a significant spin-off for Cork hospitality businesses too, with hundreds of visitors staying in the city for the Forum,” he said.

Some 400 delegates are expected to visit Cork to discuss developments in Learning and Teaching at European universities. The primary target audience for the Forum are members of senior management, academic staff and researchers interested in Learning and Teaching. It also welcomes students, policymakers, and other stakeholders in Higher Education.

Through a mix of plenary and parallel sessions, the Forum provides a platform for discussion on how universities enhance Learning and Teaching, while also presenting the work of the annual Thematic Peer Groups. “Connecting people, spaces and realities” was the focus of this year’s Forum event which took place in Bilbao, Spain in early February. UCC’s strength in Civic Engagement and Graduate Attributes was showcased in two presentations. This marked UCC’s fourth appearance on the Forum’s annual programme with previous papers on research-teaching linkages, fostering employability and education for sustainable development. Next year’s Forum will take place in Bochum, Germany on the 8th February 2024.

Further information on the event will be announced in Spring 2024
