Exemptions

Applicants who wish to gain exemptions from Irish and/or the Third Language requirement should consult the above NUI website for further details. The NUI exemption application form required for these exemptions is available on the NUI website.

NB: A Department of Education exemption will not suffice; it must be an NUI exemption.

Students from outside the Republic of Ireland

As per the NUI Matriculation Requirements booklet (see link above), "Candidates born and fully educated outside the Republic of Ireland (26 counties) who are presenting qualifications other than the Leaving Certificate for matriculation are automatically exempt from Irish and do not need to make application to NUI".
