John Joseph McCarthy Prize awarded to Civil Engineering Final Year Student, Billy Hennessy
Congratulations to Billy Hennessy on winning the School of Engineering's John Joseph McCarthy Prize. This prize of €750 is offered to the final year students of Civil and Environmental Engineering who have contributed significantly to sport at UCC.
Billy Hennessy has played hurling since he was seven years old. He represented St Finbarr's club at all levels in hurling and football and recently made his Senior Championship debut against Waterford in the Semi-Final of the Munster Championship 2020.
A highlight of his sporting career to date was playing a prominent role in the UCC Senior Hurling Panel which won the Fitzgibbon Cup in February 2020. Wearing the Skull and Crossbones on the hurling field is a memory which will stay with Billy for a long time to come.
