The School of Engineering recommends all students to come to Cork and to come to campus. As you can see from the general timetable, there are events that will take place, labs, tutorials, lectures, etc. not everything is online even though all lecturing material will be available online. If you do not come to Cork  you will actually be able to follow the lecturing material (recorded), but you will miss labs and tutorials and you will also hurt your ability to cooperate with your peers for continuous assessments, etc. Some elements of continuous assessment (like lab reports) may be impossible to do if you are not here, and they carry marks.

However, we are well aware that the nature of this emergency means that there will be some of you that may feel particularly at risk of covid infection. If coming to Cork and to campus is something that you are medically advised to consider as an overwhelming risk, we advise you to consider your safety first, and ask the Head of School or your Programme Director what can be done for your specific case to ensure both your safety and your ability to fulfil the requirements of your specific programme.

For those that will come to campus, you will be receiving more specific information from UCC regarding what you need to do and be aware of before coming to campus so that you can do your part in this shared responsibility to protect our society of the serious impact that a widespread infection of Covid would have.

Semester 1 starts on September 28, and before this date you will be seeing more specific timetables also populating your Canvas modules. Events in the general timetable cover an entire cohort, and you as an individual will eventually be assigned to groups (A, B, C, etc.) as needed, and as usual for some labs and tutorials that you’ve had since your 1st year, just that this year there may be divisions in groups for more than just labs and tutorials.

PLEASE NOTE:

At present we are continuing to work remotely due to COVID-19 but we are all contactable by email to: schoolofengineering@ucc.ie
