32nd Irish Conference of Medievalists

The Department of Early and Medieval Irish, in conjunction with the Schools of English and History, the Departments of Archaeology and Classics, and Scoil Léann na Gaeilge, hosted the 32nd Irish Conference of Medievalists on 28-30 June 2018, with 77 speakers from 14 countries.

The delegates were welcomed by the President of UCC, and there were plenary lectures by Dr Clare Stancliffe (Durham University), Dr Catherine Swift (Mary Immaculate College) and Dr Andrew Woods (York Museums Trust).  The conference was marked by the introduction of a new prize for which speakers were invited to apply, funded by Four Courts Press in memory of the late Professor Donnchadh Ó Corráin.

There were two book launches, marking the publication of In Tenga Bithnúa: The Text in the Book of Lismore (John Carey), The Mythological Cycle of Medieval Irish Literature (John Carey), Translating Early Medieval Poetry: Transformation, Reception, Interpretation (Tom Birkett and Kirsty March-Lyons), and three books by Alexander O’Hara.

The Irish Conference of Medievalists will return to Cork on 27-29 June 2019.
