International Labour Day 2023

1 May 2023

The MENTUPP project supports the global labour force by promoting mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

This year's theme, "Building a Better Future for Workers," is very timely as the world recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic which has highlighted the crucial role of mental health and wellbeing in maintaining a productive and engaged workforce. The MENTUPP project is a 4-year EU-funded project aimed at creating mentally healthy workplaces.

Within the project, the Consortium has built and is currently testing an engaging online tool, known as the MENTUPP Hub in eight European countries and Australia. The MENTUPP Hub offers guidance and support for employers and employees to build a mentally healthy work environment, including informational modules, quizzes, and interactive videos.

As we celebrate International Labour Day, the MENTUPP Consortium:

➢ Calls on all employers to prioritise mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. By doing so, they can promote a positive work culture, reduce absenteeism and turnover, and increase productivity and employee satisfaction, and

➢ Encourages workers to prioritise their own mental health by taking advantage of available resources, seeking support from colleagues and supervisors, and practicing self-care.

"Mental health and wellbeing are essential components of a healthy workforce," stated Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the WHO. As we celebrate International Labour Day 2023, let us all commit to building a better future for workers by prioritising mental health and wellbeing and opening dialogue about mental health in the workplace.
