Year 1 BSc Nursing and Midwifery students in the School of Nursing and Midwifery in UCC recently attended a Clinical Commencement Ceremony to celebrate a very important milestone in their student journey ahead of their first clinical placement. At the ceremony, students were reminded that being a student nurse or student midwife comes with a responsibility to exemplify professionalism and a commitment to caring.

Keynote address for the Midwifery Ceremony was given by Dr Rhona O' Connell. This November BSc Midwifery Year 1 students are commencing their first clinical placements in the Ireland South Women and Infants Directorate sites including Cork University Maternity Hospital, Tipperary University Hospital, University Hospital Waterford, and Kerry University Hospital.

Ms Anne Crowley Practice Development Co-ordinator from Horizons (formerly Cope foundation) gave the keynote address at the Nursing Ceremony on behalf of Health Care Partners. This November BSc Year 1 Nursing students across the four undergraduate programmes (General Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Intellectual Disability Nursing and Children’s and General Integrated Nursing)  are commencing their first clinical placements across the Munster region, including at the Mercy University Hospital, Bons Secours Hospital, Horizons (formerly Cope Foundation),  Mental Health Services, South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital, Cork University Hospital, Mallow General Hospital as well as community and older adult services across Munster.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery and affiliated Health Care Partners wish the BSc Nursing and Midwifery students well as they commence their placements.
