Chief Executive and Director of Research IFIC visits the School of Nursing and Midwifery UCC
Understanding integrated care, care co-ordination, and care continuity
Last month, Dr Niamh Lennox-Chhugani visited the School of Nursing and Midwifery UCC to explore the concept of Integrated Care in light of the Schools work in revising the Undergraduate BSc Nursing and Midwifery curriculum, due to be implemented in 2027.
Dr Lennox-Chhugani began her visit with a key note speech to all members of staff focusing on the shared understanding of integrated care, what it is, the impact it has and how it has been implemented in Ireland and other countries to date. The presentation also explored what needs to be in place to prepare the nursing and midwifery workforce for the future of delivering integrated person-centred care in the Irish Health Care System.
Thereafter, Dr Lennox-Chhugani, met with representatives of the BSc Undergraduate Curriculum Review Working Group to explore the challenges encountered to date in operationalising the concept of integrated care across the proposed revised curriculum. This was an inspiring day, providing much food for thought on how best to prepare our undergraduate students in co-producing good health and well being with people and communities, focusing on areas such as goal orientated care, shared care planning, shared decision making, self care and informal carer support.
A huge thank you to Dr Lennox-Chhugani and we look forward to collaborating together in the future.
