Ms Deirdre Lang, Director of Nursing/National Lead Older Persons Services

Clinical & Integrated Programmes HSE, visited the School of Nursing and Midwifery recently to meet second year BSc undergraduate students.
One of priorities of the Office of Nursing & Midwifery Services Director is the development of a strategic vision for gerontological nursing. Research was commission by the Office of Nursing & Midwifery Services Director and undertaken by UCC in 2016. One of the findings of the research suggests that the older persons sector is not seen as an attractive career option. Deirdre is currently meeting undergraduate students around Ireland to ascertain their thoughts on working with older people and the potential solutions. The findings of these sessions will inform a position paper that will describe nursing’s response to our aging population.
