Film and Screen Media/English Student Screens Short Film
Congratulations to Cătălin Luntrașu, a Film and Screen Media student who has just screened a short film based in part on material studied in his English modules.

On November 1st, director Cătălin Luntrașu screened two short films, "A Legacy: Dracula” and short documentary about Dracula and the connection between Ireland and Romania.
"A Legacy: Dracula" was directed by Cătălin Luntrașu, produced by Laura Câmpean (independent actress and founder of Fabrica de Teatru Sibiu organisation), and created with the support of Fabrica de Teatru (theatre courses for children and teenagers), in collaboration with SYNC – a project dedicated to promoting art and especially film among young people in Sibiu and across Romania. The film explores the myth of Vlad Țepeș – the historical leader figure behind Dracula – drawing a powerful parallel between past and present to reveal the timeless values that continue to shape our identity today.

The film was screened alongside a short documentary that explores themes of immigration in Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula and the ongoing connection between Ireland and Romania. The documentary was produced at University College Cork, with the support of the Romanian Community in Cork, and features two members of the UCC English Department: PhD student Mairead Roche and lecturer Dr Miranda Corcoran.
Director Cătălin Luntrașu is an emerging independent filmmaker from Sibiu, Romania. His films draw upon folklore and traditional stories with a modern twist, interweaving the old with the new. He is the co-founder of SYNC (Sibiu Young Neo-Art Club), a collective supporting young artists in Sibiu. Currently finishing his studies in Film and Screen Media in University College Cork.
