Visit by the Nagle Education Alliance
On Tuesday 28 April, the EDI Office and the Chaplaincy welcomed the 2026 Nagle Educational Alliance of Australia (NEAA) Pilgrims and their spiritual companion, Sr. Anne Nevin PBVM from Dublin, to UCC. The pilgrims were hosted at the Chaplaincy by Rev. Alan Marley. The purpose of their visit to UCC was to view the portrait of Nano Nagle, which is hanging in the Aula Maxima as part of UCC's Women on Walls initiative.
NEAA is an association of Australian schools committed to the Presentation charism and the legacy of Nano Nagle. The group travel to Ireland every two years to 'walk in the footsteps of Nano Nagle.' This year, the pilgrims included UCC on their itinerary; they were especially interested in seeing the new portrait of Nano Nagle that is hanging in the Aula Maxima. They were welcomed initially to the Chaplaincy, where Rev. Alan Marley spoke to them about the work of the Chaplaincy and from there to the Honan where they were given an overview of the history and architecture of the Honan Chapel.
The portrait of Honora “Nano” Nagle (1718–1784), pioneering educator and founder of the Presentation Sisters was painted by Vanessa Jones as part of Accenture’s Women on Walls at UCC campaign. Women on Walls seeks to make women leaders visible through a series of commissioned portraits that will create a lasting cultural legacy for Ireland. This is the fourth chapter of Women on Walls and the first outside of Dublin.
