Fully funded places now available for EDI in Higher Education Micro-Credential
A short, flexible course designed to fit around your life.
Now in its second year, this micro-credential offers participants fan opportunity to engage with contemporary issues relating to equality, diversity and inclusion in higher education and to consider how these issues intersect with their own professional roles and responsibilities. The course explores both the policy and practice of EDI in higher education, while encouraging participants to critically examine their own contexts and contribute to the ongoing development of an inclusive university culture.
While places are funded for staff from UCC, University of Limerick, and University of Galway, space is limited - so interested participants are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
Closing date for applications is 11th September and course start date is 21st September.
Dr. Eileen Horgan, course director, said:
"Last year, participants from different institutions and backgrounds formed new connections; meeting peers from across the sector was identified as a highlight of the experience, and this supports a national community of practice in EDI.
Embedding EDI knowledge within a formal, accredited module signals that equity, diversion, and inclusion are core professional competencies for all staff members."
Linda Horgan, College Lecturer Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy, who completed the course last year said:
"I was very unsure about completing this course from a time point of view and also as I viewed myself as somewhat of an expert (in disability inclusion).
The material challenged my views to consider broader aspects of inclusion. I found myself questioning supports we offered to students, that as a department we felt were great, but in reality were often only skimming the surface."
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
- · Facilitate awareness and understanding of what EDI means
- · Create awareness of how inequality and exclusion are experienced
- · Support development of critical thinking about how EDI can be promoted in workplace settings
- · Increase professional skills and competencies around promoting culturally sensitive, inclusive, and anti-discriminatory work practices
- · Discussion and implementation of EDI principles in the workplace, though practical ideas and innovations, including the opportunity to workshop key EDI issues
