Conversations on Ireland and Latin America

 
UCC’s Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies welcomes you to join us for a series of conversations on the growing connections between Ireland and Latin America in the areas of academia, art and activism. Throughout February, March and April, we will host a monthly virtual session, which will bring together academics, activists and artists with a connection to or a research interest in Latin America for a round table discussion, followed by participation from the audience. A key aim of these sessions is to connect those of us on the island of Ireland with an interest in social and cultural issues that impact Latin America, which are also relevant in our own communities.

Christian Nuñez, Nicaraguan refugee with international protection.
 
María Torres is an indigenous lawyer and master’s student in UCC , who serves as a parliamentary adviser at the Commission for Andean, Amazonian and Afro-Peruvian Peoples, Environment and Ecology at the Congress of the Republic of Peru.
 
Mirna Vohnsen is an assistant lecturer in Spanish at Technological University Dublin.

Kate Quinn is a lecturer in the Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies at NUI Galway.
 
Aisling Walsh (She/Her) is currently working towards a PhD in sociology at the National University of Ireland Galway, where she is researching decolonial and feminist practices of healing justice in Guatemala, supported by the Andrew Grene Postgraduate Scholarship in Conflict Resolution, Irish Research Council.
 
Johnny Batista is a Brazilian jazz musician, living in Dublin for seven years, he got a bachelor's in the DCU's Jazz Performance programme last year and he has been part of the music scene in Dublin since he arrived in Ireland. 
 
Dr. Margaret Brehony is an IRC Caroline Fellow at the Department of Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies in UCC.
