Cork Pride Parade

Cork LGBT+ Pride Festival 2019 takes place from 28th July to 4th August. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall Riots in New York, when the LGBT+ liberation struggle took a giant leap forward.

Join us in celebration at the main event: the annual Pride Parade on Sunday 4th August. UCC LGBT+ Staff Network will be participating: we invite Allies and all members of UCC staff to walk in solidarity with us.

We’ll be gathering at 12.30pm outside Electric bar on the South Mall and would love if you would join us. We’ll have the UCC banner: you can’t miss us! The Parade sets off from Grand Parade at 1pm and you can get full details on the Parade here. You can let us know that you will be joining us by emailing us or just show up at the meeting point on the day. We’ll have a stand outside/near the main entrance to the Boole Library on Wednesday 31st from 1-2pm for anyone who wants to pick up some free UCC LGBT+ and Allies rainbow stickers, badges and lanyards that you might consider wearing on the march and/or in the workplace (if you want a ‘Proud Ally’ rainbow-themed lanyard, button pin or sticker but are unable to make it over to the Boole Library on Weds 31st between 1pm-2pm, drop a line to mary.orourke@ucc.ie and we’ll post one out to you). Also, if you are interested in signing up to join the UCC Rainbow Alliance you can do so in person then, or anytime online here

There are many other events happening during Cork Pride 2019 that familiar faces are involved with. See for instance the Interactive LGBT+ History Walking Tour on Thursday 1st August 7-9pm, led by Orla Egan. More details here

And come along to MakerDojo Rainbow Science at Tyndall on Wednesday 31st between 6.30-8.30pm. With Tyndall/UCC Student Chapter of OSA and SPIE and MakerDojo you’ll get a chance to make some toys and try out some experiments you can do at home. For everyone, from adults to Transition Year students! You can register via Eventbrite here (any queries on the MakerDojo Rainbow Science event, please contact Network committee member Will Knott in Tyndall.)
