This sixteen month Diploma (level 7) is designed to meet the needs of the general dental service and will prepare the dental nurse for work in the dental practice. The programme is delivered by both Cork and Dublin Dental Schools with the innovative use of video conferencing and a variety of teaching methods. This programme is also delivered via this means to outreach centres in, Galway, Limerick, Tralee and Waterford. The modular programme places an emphasis on the development of practical skills supported by a sound theoretical knowledge.
Students study topics such as the role of the dental nurse in the healthcare team, ethics and communication and biology and anatomy as well as building a knowledge of dental materials and dental instruments.
Successful completion of the programme permits entry onto the Irish Dental Council register for Dental Nurses.
