Dr. Siobhain O’ Mahony gave a high level training session on “The Microbiota and Neurodevelopmental time windows” at the Inserm workshop “Intestinal microbiota: from bench to bedside” which took place in Bordeaux from the 13th to 15th April.

Every year since 1987, the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm) organise “Inserm Workshops”. These are high level training sessions to transfer knowledge and experiences to an audience that has a direct interest in the field.

Dr. O’ Mahony spoke on the emerging topics and technologies used to assess the impact of the gut microbiota during important neurodevelopmental time windows and the risk of brain disorders. She highlighted the importance of the impact of disruptions to the microbiota during these time windows which include early life and adolescence and the increased risk for susceptibility to develop disorders of the central nervous system. Attendees were researchers, scientists, technicians and medical doctors working in government-funded bodies, universities, teaching hospitals and companies in health-related industries.
