The Seminar for Ancient and Medieval Studies (SAMS) is an interdisciplinary forum that brings together colleagues from Archaeology, Classics, Digital Humanities, Early and Medieval Irish, English and History.

Our first speaker this semester is Prof. Julia Hillner from the University of Sheffield. Hillner’s research has been funded by the British Academy, the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Leverhulme Trust and the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation. She received a PROSE Awards Honorable mention for her 2015 monograph, Prison, Punishment and Penance in Late Antiquity (Cambridge UP) and is writing a biography of the Empress Helena for OUP’s Women in Antiquity series.
