I will discuss archival recovery, networking and collaboration, beginning with the inspiration for the Irish Women’s Writing Network—a major collaborative archival research project—and a literary biography of the hitherto neglected nineteenth century Irish writer, Hannah Lynch, Hannah Lynch (1880-1920), by Faith Binckes and myself. The process of excavation—archival pursuit of forgotten works, lost details, missing letters—was simultaneously the construction of an archive where one did not exist and, through the recovery of details about her activism and literary interventions, the forging of new narratives of late nineteenth-century Ireland’s broader political, cultural, literary and publishing contexts.
