The launch takes place to coincide with the annual critical perspectives’ conference in UCC on 13 and 14 November. The purpose is to celebrate the book’s publication. The importance of the publication is well articulated by one of the reviewers, who ‘encourages anyone wanting to learn more about the limitations of current mental health care, and what to do about it, to read this book’ (Bob Diamond, clinical psychologist). The book showcases projects which offer user-centred, context-informed, non-medical ways of helping people experiencing distress. Speakers are Robert Whitaker, medical journalist and author, Dr Malcolm Garland, consultant psychiatrist in Dublin, and Liz Brosnan, survivor researcher.
