UCC to host welcome event for first-year Arts students
- All first-year Arts and Arts International students invited to welcome event on 24 September at 1pm.
All first-year Arts BA (CK101) and Arts – International BA (CK108) students are invited to a special welcome event on Wednesday, 24 September at 1pm in Devere Hall, UCC.
Hosted by UCC College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, this event aims to give first-year Arts students, across diverse subjects, the chance to meet one another and to meet their lecturers in a relaxed, informal setting.
What to expect
The event will open with an introduction from Dr Lee-Ann Burke (Economics), followed by a welcome address from Professor Stephen Graham, Head of UCC College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences (CACSSS). Elaine Browne from UCC Careers Service will then offer practical advice and guidance on how students can begin to explore their career pathways from the very start of their degree.
Dr David Fitzgerald, Vice Head of Teaching and Learning at UCC CACSSS, said: “Our Arts degrees are among the most popular programmes at UCC, attracting students with an extraordinary range of interests across more than twenty subjects. This event will bring those diverse students together at the very start of their journey, putting names to faces, finding your people, and getting to know the staff who want you to thrive.”
Lecturers from across Arts disciplines will also be present, giving students the opportunity to ask questions, learn more about their subject areas, and begin to form connections that will support them throughout their studies.
Light lunch will also be provided.
Why attend?
This is not only a chance to hear from UCC leaders but also to make personal connections at the very start of your academic journey. It is an opportunity to step outside the lecture theatre, meet the people behind your subjects, and share the experience with fellow students who are starting out just like you.
All first-year Arts students are warmly encouraged to attend.
No registration is required — simply come along.
