UCC student films to be showcased at Fastnet Film Festival
- Films created by UCC students will be screened at Fastnet Film Festival.
- UCC students will feature in festival programme alongside Paul Mescal, Daisy Edgar Jones and Lenny Abrahamson.

Films created by emerging filmmakers at University College Cork (UCC) will be showcased at the Fastnet Film Festival, an innovative celebration of film taking place in Schull, West Cork.
10 short films made by UCC Film and Screen Media students, from undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, will be screened at the showcase which will take place in the Plaza Cinema, Schull on Wednesday, 22 May at 3pm. Admission is free.
The Fastnet Film Festival, held annually in Schull, West Cork, is a unique celebration of film from around the world. The festival focuses on the craft of filmmaking hosting workshops, seminars and masterclasses with leading industry experts on all aspects of the film industry.
Supporting young filmmakers
Dan O’Connell, Lecturer in Filmmaking, UCC’s Department of Film and Screen Media, said: “Our students are delighted to present their work at Fastnet Film Festival this year, some who are screening their work in a festival for the very first time. Films created by our students will be among more than 200 short films from more than 40 countries and 18 feature-length films in this year’s programme. The festival offers a rare opportunity to screen work by short filmmakers in a festival that will transform the village of Schull, with screenings all over the village.”
“The festival invites our Film and Screen Media students to present their own work while also connecting with and learning from emerging and leading international filmmakers. The festival is a haven for filmmakers at all stages of their careers and film fans,” Dan said.

The films will be featured are: Will you be Mime?, Poker Face, Winter Waves, The Life and Death of a Home, Amphetamines – Cardinals (music video); Feel Like a Man - The Cliffords (music video), Nightmarethon, Nothing Burns Like the Cold, Jumping to Conclusions and Close Shave presented by UCC Puttnam Scholars 2022/23.
Studying Film and Screen Media at UCC
University College Cork's BA in Film and Screen Media is a unique, major degree that offers students a thorough film studies education on the history, theory, values, aesthetics and ideology of the moving image. Led by internationally recognised experts, the BA in Film and Screen Media immerses students in the history and theory of film and screen media from around the world, from the birth of cinema to the age of the Internet.
UCC's Masters in Film and Screen Media is a one-year taught course that offers students advanced-level critical skills in the discipline of Film & Screen Media, film and screen cultures and industries, training in digital filmmaking, and transferrable IT/web skills.
Graduates have embarked on diverse career paths in many areas of the film industry such as digital media, television, video production, festivals, advertising and marketing. Graduates have also gone on to pursue careers in broadcasting, public service, research and teaching.
