We’re very proud of the calibre, diversity and disciplinary range of our Artist in Residence programmes here at UCC and with the opportunities these give us for ongoing collaboration with distinguished professional arts organisations. UCC’s ability to host vibrant artist residencies which offer professional creative practitioners time and space to develop their own work as well as opportunities for them to engage with students, staff and our communities through artist-led workshops, readings, screenings, performances, festivals and events is indicative of our ongoing commitment to sustaining the presence of these artists within UCC. The Arts Council generously co-funds three of our six artist residencies; the Writer in Residence programme, hosted by the School of English & Digital Humanities which is the longest established at more than thirty years; the Film Artist in Residence programme, now in its ninth year, hosted by the Department of Film & Screen Media and the Traditional Artist in Residence programme, now in its seventh year, hosted by the Department of Music. Our Theatre Artist in Residence programme is co-funded by Cork Opera House as part of our long term partnership and is now in its third year, the Literary Translator in Residence is a new initiative co-funded by Literature Ireland and the Classical Artist in Residence is supported by Ritmüller Pianos. A significant part of the funding for all these Artist in Residence programmes comes from the College of Arts, Celtics Studies and Social Sciences.

This is an important moment for creative practice at UCC. We launched our inaugural Arts & Culture Plan in 2022 and will be appointing an Arts & Culture Officer in 2023 to support and drive its implementation; the Glucksman Gallery was awarded the European Art Museum of the year and plans are advanced for a major renovation of The Granary Theatre. We are serious about our commitment to the creative intelligence of professional artists, to the benefits for students, staff and the wider community of having such artists working amongst us
