Who we are and what we do
The Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at UCC shapes and supports the academic activities of the University and its affiliated Clinical Sites in three related clinical disciplines:
- Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine
- Intensive Care Medicine
- Pain Management
It has responsibility to its students, trainees and staff to ensure that the education and training provided is excellent and that it consistently contributes to advancing these disciplines by conducting important research. The Department values people and their contributions; it operates with three explicit intentions:
- To meet the education and training needs of students and staff who participate in these disciplines
- To provide opportunities to our doctors and others to contribute to clinical and applied research
- To enhance the experience and outcome of patients through our efforts.
Our approach is collaborative and ambitious; we see it as essential that we interact academically with other universities, hospitals, companies and research centres around the world.
