The Traveller Equality and Justice Project

The Traveller Equality and Justice Project aims to highlight ongoing levels of discrimination experienced by Travellers in Cork and Kerry. Our objective is to provide legal research support to Traveller organisations and map experiences of Travellers who have been refused access to goods and services.

Marc is currently Chair of the TEJP's Advisory Board and has been a valuable supporter of the TEJP since our development.

High Court finds that a young Traveller family were subject to an “unfair” Circuit Court discrimination appeal.

The TEJP welcomes the recent High Court judicial review, O'Neill v. Atlantic Troy Ltd [2024] IEHC 541 where Mr Justice Barry O'Donnell  found that a young Traveller family were subject to an “unfair” Circuit Court discrimination appeal.

The TEJP is delighted to be funded by the Council of Europe Roma and Traveller Unit for September-December 2024.

The TEJP has received funding from the Council of Europe, Roma and Travellers Division for September-December 2024 for activities under the 'Rights Aware,' project, which seeks to build capacity for Roma and Traveller Civil Society organisations to use Council of Europe standards and mechanisms for promoting rights of Roma and Travellers.

The Traveller Court Support Initiative Project staff visit the Washington St Courthouse.

The Traveller Court Supports Initiative visit Washington St, Courthouse for a tour of the historic building by Mary-Clare Kearney.  The TCSI which is an exciting project, provides six Traveller women with legal training and courtroom experience. The aim of which is to provide culturally-appropriate peer support workers, who will act as 'court buddies' for other Travellers taking civil or family cases to the courts.  The TCSI is the first such programme in Ireland to be codesigned and advanced in partnership with Traveller organisation partners in Cork, the Court Service and the School of Law, UCC. In providing and training culturally-appropriate court support workers, the TCSI seeks to respond to the barriers to justice experienced by Traveller litigants within the civil system.
