The SDSN Ireland Leadership Council met on March 4^th at the National University of Ireland Offices in Dublin to discuss ongoing initiatives across the network and the broader role of Ireland and Europe in advancing the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs.

The meeting was opened by Leadership Council Co-Chairs President John O’Halloran (UCC) and Vice Chancellor Ian Greer (QUB), who welcomed several guests from the global SDSN community, including Professor Jeffrey Sachs, President of the SDSN Association, and Maria Cortes Puch, Vice President of Networks.  Sumaya Mohommed (UCC) and Elizabeth Zion (UCD) represented the student voice in subsequent discussions. The Council also welcomed Vice President Jane Stout (TCD) and Vice President Tasman Crowe (UCD), the Council’s two most recent members.

Registration is now open for the 2026 UW0005 /CPD1640 University Wide Module in Sustainability, a recipient of the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Sessions will take place online on Thursdays from 6-8pm, commencing Thursday 29^th January 2026. The theme of the module is “Putting Sustainability in its place, putting yourself in the picture” and it is open to students, staff and the general public.  The module can be taken for additional credit (5 Credits), Digital Badge, or Interest Only. 

The Sustainable Development Solutions Network Ireland (SDSN Ireland), the all-island coalition of universities and NGOs has been officially recognised as a 2025–2027 SDG Champion by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE).  SDSN Ireland was launched in February of 2023 and is co-hosted by University College Cork (UCC) and Queen’s University Belfast

Mapping Climate Change unites for the first time two innovative textile art projects from the US and Ireland that give visual and tangible presence to our warming world at a crucial moment of environmental precarity.

In advance of COP30, taking place in Belém, Brazil, in mid-November, UCC is organising a mock COP in UCC on Monday, Nov 3rd. The role-play activity simulates the international climate negotiations. Everyone (students and staff) is welcome to attend and participate.

The NEB|LAB Eco²Schools Conference is taking place on 22 November in University College Cork. The university is one of the project's innovative pilot sites & will be hosting this event.
