What is COP30 about and why are we hosting a mock COP?
This November, 196 countries of the world will meet in Belém, Brazil at COP30 to negotiate the next stage of an agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. To mark the importance of COP30 in the global effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, on Nov 3rd, UCC will host a role-playing version of the negotiations to understand the challenges & to see if a global agreement can be reached.
Participants will adopt negotiating positions for different country groupings & have the opportunity to experience first-hand the challenges of reaching a global agreement on emissions reduction targets that will be tested with climate modelling software.
Previous mock COPs in UCC have been organised in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
