Peter Hourihan's Story

Having grown up on the wild south-west coast of Ireland, and being a keen surfer, Peter was always captivated by the power of the ocean. When Peter read about the MEngSc Sustainable Energy at UCC, he saw this as an ideal way of integrating my passions into my career choices.

"Completing the Master’s programme opened a whole new realm of employment opportunities to me that had not been accessible before. It enabled me to build on my prior experience in the field of Civil Engineering and to progress into a new and exciting field of work that is more compatible with my long-term career and lifestyle goals.

I firmly believe that my experience at UCC has provided me with a Masters that matters. The world is facing a fundamental shift in all aspects of energy supply in the future, and international agreements are placing increasing demands on governments to reduce carbon emissions and to increase the supply of sustainable sources of energy. Hence, the supply of skilled professionals in supporting areas is critical, and I believe that the MEngSc in Sustainable Energy places graduates in an extremely strong position to contribute to the achievement of these objectives."
