World languages, world class!

Modern languages in UCC features in the top 100 institutes in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject

The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures is delighted to report that the subject area Modern Languages in UCC features in the top 100 institutes in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject

For the full story, please see the report on the UCC website.

We are one of only three subject areas in UCC in the top 100, and the only one in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Science (CACSSS) in UCC. With biological sciences, languages constitute one of only two subject areas where there are three Irish institutions in the top 100.

Professor Patrick O’Donovan, Head of School, welcomed the news of the School’s improvement on its position in the top 150 institutions in 2012. ‘I regard it as a welcome public confirmation of the value of what we do, and hope that it will assist us in our efforts to promote our subjects among students who are excited about languages and the possibilities which language study open up for them. I am particularly glad that the hard work that is engaged in across the School by students and staff alike has secured this testimony to our merits. I hope this welcome news will give all of our students a boost in their confidence as they head into their end of year examinations.’

Teaching, learning and research in languages is a mission which our School shares with the School of Asian Studies and the School of Irish Learning, to whom we also extend our warm congratulations.
