22.09.2010

Final year students at UCC are this week (September 20-22nd) participating in a three day Business Seminar at the university.
The Seminar which has been sponsored for the past four years by United Drug, provides the students with opportunities to hear presentations from a range of experts.  Speakers from United Drug, UCC Careers Service and established Pharmacy businesses within the Munster region, will discuss a range of topics.  The Bank of Ireland is offering specialist advice on financial planning and investing for the future.  Guest speaker, Professor Mick Molloy, Consultant Rheumatologist (former Irish Lock and Irish Rugby Union’s first ever Medical officer) will focus on leadership and motivation in his talk “Leadership, Ethics and Moral Fibre”.

The final session of the programme will cover the theme “Career Opportunities".  It will be concluded with an address to the students by Governing Body Member, Dr Tom Cavanagh, after whom the Cavanagh Pharmacy Building is named.

As Professor Julia Kennedy, UCC Professor of Clinical Practice explains: “Demand for places at UCC’s School of Pharmacy is very high and this is due to the existence within UCC of one of the most exciting pharmacy training facilities in Europe.  By introducing such innovative teaching programmes, a common theme of UCC’s College of Medicine and Health, we aim to ensure that community pharmacies, hospital pharmacies and the pharmaceutical industry are provided with the very best of graduates”
