The awards highlight individuals and researchers who Enterprise Ireland believes have the potential to generate commercial value from their solutions to technical and societal challenges.
Dara Fitzpatrick joined the UCC Analytical Chemistry Team in 2002. He has recently developed a highly novel acoustic spectroscopic technique which has significant potential for research and problem solving in the pharmaceutical and food industries globally. The technique has the ability to distinguish physical and chemical characteristics of active pharmaceutical compounds and food ingredients. The platform called Broadband Acoustic Resonance Dissolution Spectroscopy (BARDS) has already attracted significant funding from both industry and Enterprise Ireland. A prototype instrument is being developed currently with a view to satisfying generated demand. Industrial collaborators include Glaxo Smith Kline and Pepsico Corporation.
