04.05.2010

UCC received two awards at the 12th National Irish Institute of Training and Development (IITD) Award Presentation Ceremony recently.

Despite a very competitive group of short-listed institutions within the Public and Private Sector, UCC won the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ in the Public Sector Category and a ‘Best Practice Initiative Award’.  On receipt of the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ Ms Angela O’Donovan, Organisation Development Partner, Human Resources, acknowledged the contribution of staff within the University who collaborate in a collegial manner to deliver progressive practices in developing the University and its staff to meet current and future challenges.

The ‘Best Practice Initiative Award’ was awarded to UCC’s ‘No Frontiers Programme’ delivered collaboratively by Human Resources and the International Education Office in response to the growing diversity of staff and students in the University.  Suzanne Buckley, Support Officer for International Students, International Education Office commented that “creating cultural awareness and understanding helps students to derive the maximum benefit from their student experience”. From a staff perspective, Catherine Maguire, EODS Advisor, Human Resources said that this programme “assists staff to respond to the challenges presented by a more multicultural classroom”.
