UCC hosts Human-Computer Interaction Conference
18.09.2008

Researchers, students, and designers will gather in UCC this weekend (September 19th/20th) for the second Irish Human-Computer Interaction Conference (I-HCI).
Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) is concerned with all aspects of human use of computers, and focuses on augmenting human activity and enriching experience. Originally grounded in the sciences of usability and interaction, HCI now draws upon a wide range of creative and critical disciplines in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The theme of this year's conference, "Cultures of Interaction", reflects the continued growth of HCI, which now engages with many aspects of human life in work, leisure, the home, and public spaces.

The conference includes papers from both academia and industry covering a wide range of topics. One session will look at the problems faced by computer-users with special needs, while others will look at wider social issues, including the use of social networking sites. Another session will consider examples of HCI in system design, such as in a collision avoidance system for pilots.

The conference is jointly organised by members of the Departments of Computer Science and Applied Psychology, UCC and will be held in the Cavanagh Pharmacy Building. Further details can be found on the conference website: http://ihci.ucc.ie/
