An Evening of Romantic Film Karaoke at the Glucksman
18.09.2008

The Lewis Glucksman Gallery will mark Cork's first Culture Night with a dazzling programme of free entertainment on Friday 19th September, 8-11pm.
The highlight of the Glucksman's Culture Night programme is an evening of romantic film karaoke - a project by Cork-based artist Fiona Dowling.  Audience members will be invited to voiceover the dialogue of famous romantic movie scenes, alongside the icons of the big screen.

To coincide with the Glucksman's current exhibition, BOOKISH: When Books Become Art, the featured film scenes are all taken from book adaptations such as Gone with the Wind, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Wuthering Heights and Pride and Prejudice.   Subtitles are provided, so no rehearsals necessary. A karaoke 'menu' will be available to audience members, from which to choose their favourite scene.  Audience members choose their favourite scene from a Karaoke menu and inform the MC (the artist) which scene they would like to reenact. The scene is then projected on the wall and you act out the scene by reading the subtitles in true karaoke style!

Artist Fiona Dowling
Cork-based, French-born artist Fiona Dowling works across a range of media, from performance events to painting works. Connecting much of the work are her interests in love; its difficulty of expression and representation.

Culture Night 2008
Culture Night 2008 will be celebrated on Friday September 19th. This year will see the expansion of the initiative to cultural venues outside of Dublin. Cork, Limerick and Galway will for the first time participate in Culture Night. The evening will see over thirty venues in Cork city remain open until 11pm and admission to all events is free. Director Fiona Kearney is delighted that Culture Night has expanded to include Cork and in particular is looking forward to welcoming new visitors to the gallery. "I think there is going to be a lot of merriment in the Glucksman on Culture Night - our karaoke evening will be huge fun and with such a citywide emphasis on the arts, I'm especially looking forward to welcoming some new visitors to the gallery".
