"Sustainable Community Development in Action" - Public Lecture at UCC
10.04.2008

On Thursday, April 17th, the Centre for Sustainable Livelihoods at UCC, in association with the Irish charity, Friends of Londiani, will host a lecture at UCC titled "Sustainable Community Development in Action."
Friends of Londiani (FOL) is an Irish charity which works in partnership with Kenyan communities in the Londiani region.  Since 2002, FOL has implemented sustainable development projects in the areas of health, education and water.  The Kenyan Director of FOL, Anna Wilson and two of the medical staff Steven Cheruiyot and Benjamin Cheruiyot are at present in Ireland on a business and study visit.  Anna, Steven and Benjamin are from one of the areas most affected by political unrest and tribal fighting in Kenya in recent times.

Maria Kidney, Chairperson of FOL welcomes the opportunity to co-host this public lecture with the Centre for Sustainable Livelihoods: "This is our first lecture in UCC and we are looking forward to it.  We hope to continue the partnership with the Centre for Sustainable Livelihoods in UCC for many years to come.  I am sure that both Friends of Londiani and the Centre for Sustainable Livelihoods can learn from each other and share new ideas.  Our Kenyan Director and Kenyan Staff are looking forward to sharing their practical experience of sustainable community development projects with the public."

The lecture will be held in Boole 1 at University College Cork at 7pm on Thursday 17th April.  Members of the public are welcome to attend and admission is free.
