Post Filled: Research Fellow, School of Computer Science and Information Technology

21 Jun 2021
The School of Computer Science & Information Technology (CSIT) at UCC is part of four major Irish SFI-funded research centres, CONNECT - Centre for Future Networks & Communications, Insight - Centre for Data Analytics, Lero - Irish Software Research Centre, CONFIRM - Research Centre for Smart Manufacturing and it is also hosting two large doctoral training centres (CRT ADVANCE and CRT AI). We are now looking for an experienced researcher to join the CONNECT Centre team and our vibrant research community here at CSIT.

Post Duration: 36 months

Salary: €55,811 - €60,814 p.a. (IUA Salary Scale)

Project Title: Dependable and Secure Internet of Things Networks (CONNECT)

The domain of distributed embedded systems can also be described as Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), Cyber Physical Systems (CPS), or the Internet of Things (IoT). Most computer systems surrounding us in our daily life are no longer the traditional personal computers but embedded devices. Recently, these embedded devices have become increasingly networked to form distributed networked embedded systems. Examples of such networked embedded systems are home automation systems, physical intrusion detection systems, smart cities or factory automation. Embedded devices are used to build critical infrastructures and we depend on their reliable operation. It is therefore essential to provide networking mechanisms which ensure reliable and dependable communications and protect these infrastructures against human error, system faults and attacks.

We are looking for an experienced researcher to join our team as a Research Fellow. The title of Research Fellow at UCC is awarded to candidates who already have relevant post-PhD work experience. The appointed person is expected to make significant contributions to the research agenda of the CONNECT research centre, working closely with the Principal Investigators Professors Pesch, Sreenan and Roedig and with academic and industry collaborators. We welcome applications of researchers with an established publication track record. The candidate should have experience in IoT research areas such as 'realtime communications', 'interference mitigation', 'communication protocol design', 'cyber security' and should have practical experience with IoT testbeds and/or deployments. Ideally, the candidate should have experience of collaborating or engaging with industry.
