Applications invited for a PhD Position, Computer Science Department. Position Filled.

A PhD position in the general area of cloud computing is available at the Department of Computer Science, University College Cork (UCC), Ireland, supervised by Dr. John  Herbert and Prof. Cormac Sreenan.  This position is offered as part of the Telecommunications Graduate Initiative (TGI), a multi-institution graduate education initiative funded by the Irish Higher Education Authority and involving UCC’s Mobile & Internet Systems Lab.. This will provide an enhanced student learning experience, including access to a range of purpose-built educational modules in important topics in telecommunications.

Applicants should hold a good honours undergraduate or Masters degree in computer science or a closely related discipline. Ideal applicants will be able to demonstrate an interest in both theoretical and systems skills – using analytical techniques to guide the creation and evaluation of novel solutions for the challenging problems in next-generation cloud computing systems. The successful applicant will receive total funding of approximately €16K per annum for up to 3.5 years and an annual contribution of €5K towards tuition fees. The 2011/12 fee for an EU PhD student is €5770. These positions are available immediately and we welcome applicants of any nationality. Note that the successful applicant from this process will need to make a formal application for admission to UCC and then to register in person on or before March 31 2012. This is a hard deadline due to a funding constraint.
