Emma Guerin wins postgrad publication of the year in Microbiology and SEFS

Emma was presented with her prize for the best Postgraduate Research Publication in the school of Microbiology by Professor Dave Kelly, during his recent visit to the School of Microbiology as the new external examiner for the BSc Microbiology programme. Professor Kelly is Chair of Microbial Physiology at the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, University of Sheffield, UK.

The Postgraduate Research Publication of the Year competition is a new award in the School of Microbiology and College of SEFS. Each unit affiliated with the College of SEFS conducted an internal competition and selected the best peer-reviewed academic paper within the discipline, published in the year 2018, which was then put forward for the College of SEFS Postgraduate Research Publication of the Year Prize*. Emma also came joint first with 2 other entries in the SEFS competition with her paper ‘Biology and Taxonomy of crAss-like Bacteriophages, the Most Abundant Virus in the Human Gut’ which was published in Cell Host & Microbe and can be viewed here.

*The College of SEFS Postgraduate Research Publication of the Year Prize is awarded to the best peer-reviewed academic papers submitted by a registered PhD or MSc (research) student in a department/school or a research institute affiliated with the College of SEFS.
