Microbiology Society annual conference in Edinburgh
UCC undergraduate students from the School of Microbiology presented their research at the 2017 Microbiology Society annual conference in Edinburgh (https://www.microbiologysociety.org/event/annual-conference/annual-conference-2017.html).
The students travelled to Edinburgh as representatives of the 2017 third year undergraduate microbiology class who were engaged in the Microbiology Society’s Antibiotics Unearthed education-outreach project (https://www.microbiologysociety.org/education-outreach/antibiotics-unearthed.html). The Antibiotics Unearthed project promotes student engagement with the emerging crisis of antibiotic resistance through active research targeting the recovery of antibiotic producing microorganisms from soils, (a rich source of microbial diversity). UCC is the only Irish university to engage with the Antibiotics Unearthed project, which the School of Microbiology has fully integrated into a 10 credit, research-engaged, undergraduate module.
