The 6^th annual New Horizons Research Conference sponsored by the School of Medicine and organised by the Research and Postgraduate Affairs Committee took place in the Devere Hall, Aras na MacLeinn on Thursday, 5^th of December 2019.

Transition Year secondary school students from across Ireland attended University College Cork’s School of Medicine on Feb 1st 2019 to attend ‘Prep-for Med.’ This hugely popular programme allows young people to experience both the life and the facilities available to medical students’ in UCC’s School of Medicine.

Starting in the Academic Year 2019/20, CANVAS will replace BLACKBOARD as UCC's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). 

The inaugural Dr. Paule Cotter Medal will be awarded to Professor Mary Leader, Consultant Histopathologist for her outstanding contribution to Pathological Practise both in Ireland and internationally.

The School of Medicine was delighted to host the 6th Atlantic Corridor Medical Student Research Conference on Thursday 7th of November in Brookfield Health Science Complex. This intervarsity undergraduate research showcase provided an opportunity to enjoy presentations on a diverse range of clinical and translational medical research projects completed across two of the ‘Atlantic Corridor’ medical schools – UCC and NUIG. The programme included a stimulating mixture of oral and poster presentations, in addition to a plenary lecture by Dr Liam Fanning, Director, Virology Diagnostic and Research Laboratory, Cork University Hospital.

Congratulations to Mr Mario Rotundo and Mr Darek Sokol-Randell (Graduate Entry Medical students) who were awarded the Dr Moira O'Brien medal for the top oral presentation at the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine Annual Scientific Conference

The first of the INSPIRE lectures was delivered on October 2^nd by Dr. Sharon McKenna (pictured), Principal Investigator at the Cork Cancer Research Centre.

The annual School of Medicine Prize-Giving Ceremony took place on Friday 22 November, 2019 in Brookfield Health Sciences Complex.The Dean of the School, Professor Paula O’Leary welcomed the large number of prize-winners, their families and friends to the Ceremony.   The Dean also had a warm welcome for the family and friends of deceased family members and past graduates of the University to the Ceremony. 

At the recent School of Medicine Prize-Giving Ceremony on Friday 22 November, 2019 the Dean of the School, Professor O’Leary highlighted the many successes of MedSoc, Surgeon Noonan, Friends of MSF and Emergency Care Society in the 2018/2019 academic year.
