UCC Medical Education Unit awarded Grant for CPD research

7 Oct 2015

Dr Bridget Maher and colleagues, Medical Education Unit, UCC School of Medicine were recently awarded a grant from INMED/Irish Medical Council for a CPD research project titled ‘A Mixed Methods Needs Analysis and Group Concept Mapping Study to inform a framework for CPD development across the continuum of Medical Education.’

The project involves Needs Analysis questionnaires for both General Practitioners and Hospital doctors, multi-stakeholder Group Concept Mapping and qualitative analysis.

'CPD is a mandatory requirement for all doctors. Doctors have varying CPD needs and differ in how and when they want CPD delivered. This study hopes to evaluate the CPD needs and attitudes of Irish doctors. By identifying areas that doctors need further education in, universities can also address these educational needs at undergraduate level. CPD is part of the continuum of medical education and medical professionals constantly need to update their knowledge and skills.'
