About UCC Medicine 2032 Project

The School of Medicine is developing a new Medicine Programmes’ Curriculum to be implemented in a phased manner from 2027-28. The project to design and implement the new curriculum is titled UCC Medicine 2032, reflecting the year in which its first cohort will graduate. The purpose of this site is to provide information about the new structure and, as the project progresses, to provide updates and access to curriculum documents and content. 

The School offers two Medicine programmes, the CK701 Direct Entry (5-year) Medicine programme (DEM) and the CK791 Graduate Entry (4-year) Medicine programme (GEM). The DEM programme enrols EU and non-EU school-leaver and mature entrants. The GEM programme enrols EU and non-EU entrants with a prior level 8 degree (minimum 2.1 or equivalent). The programmes merge for the final two and half years and students in both programmes are awarded the MB BCh BAO degree. The new curriculum will be implemented in both DEM and GEM programmes. 

The new curriculum is a Generalist Integrated Case-Led Medicine Curriculum, which is evidence-based and grounded in international and national standards, best practice and education theory. It is learner, patient and future-focused, ensuring that graduates meet health workforce needs and health system priorities now and, in the future. 

Development of the new curriculum is being led by the Curriculum Review Working Group (CRWG), a subgroup of the School of Medicine Undergraduate Curriculum Committee.
